Titled "Maternity Care Practices and their Impact on the Microbiome," Penny's talk will offer valuable information on the development of a healthy infant microbiome and the lifelong effects on the child's health. She takes us on a microscopic journey that discusses the transfer of microbes between the mother-baby unit when looking at the method of birth (vaginal birth vs. caesarean delivery), feeding practices (breastfeeding vs. formula feeding) and during skin to skin contact.
